I am somewhat of a fan of Charlie Brooker. He is funny and hateful in equal measure. His previous TV writing work left me a little dissapointed (not including the awesomeness that everyone must see that is screen wipe) but this new one looks a treat.

The idea is that the idiotic human scum who appear in ‘Big Brother’ (I’m using less than half of the vitriol that Brooker uses when describing these people) well they find themselves exiting the  ‘BB’ house to a zombie holocaust. Yes. BIG BROTHER TWATS MEET ZOMBIES!! It sounds amazing.

It’s called ‘Dead set’ and here’s  what Brooker says;

Time passed. And then one night I was watching Big Brother when another thought struck me. All zombie movies eventually boil down to a siege situation. What better place to hide than a fortified house thronged with cameras? Every person in the country must’ve fantasised at some point about what would happen if some terrible apocalypse occurred during a run of Big Brother, leaving the contestants oblivious. So that would be the starting point.

Dead Set very much isn’t The Wire; instead, it’s unashamed populist schlock. Warped and disgusting populist schlock, I hope, but shlock nonetheless.

rest of his words here

And finally, I tried to find an advert so that I could help promote the show, but all the ones I’ve found are not allowed to be embedded, so I can only thank their marketing/legal department, then pander to their wishes and direct you HERE   to a youtubey ad, and then to stop myself hating the very fingers i’m using to type this, let’s watch some unconnected happy happy joy joy

Dead set is on channel 4 E4 (British box) on monday tonight and should be watched by all.

EDIT: I said channel 4. It’s not it’s E4.

There has been a spider sitting in the corner of my living room ceiling  now for several days. He’s rather large, but hey, we get on fine. What I probably wouldn’t be happy co-existing with is this bird eating beast…

  i think it ate little johnny...

Yes, that is a giant-assed spider catching and eating a big-assed bird.

The Cassini satellite has been orbiting Saturn for the past four years and its been taking mountains of photos, this one has Saturns moons Titan and Enceladus.

Sister Moons separated by rings and some distance. Saturn’s rings cut across a scene ruled by Titan’s globe-encircling haze, lit up by the distant Sun and interrupted only by the small, closer moon Enceladus. The scattered light around planet-sized Titan (5,150 kilometers, or 3,200 miles across) makes the moon’s solid surface visible in silhouette, giant compared to Enceladus (505 kilometers, or 314 miles across). The image was taken in visible red light with the Cassini spacecraft narrow-angle camera on June 10, 2006 at a distance of approximately 3.9 million kilometers (2.4 million miles) from Enceladus and 5.3 million kilometers (3.3 million miles) from Titan.

Thats not the only one either, theres 25 other photos to gander and woooot at over at The Big Picture. Highly Recommended!

Boingboing found this rather awkward/sweet/something pro-Obama video featuring director of bland-ness Richie cunningham;

Well shucks.

EDIT: The internet video source landscape has changed once again…the rest of the video (ie the good bits) can be seen here.

You may have discovered this some time ago, we certainly did but back then we didn’t have a website to shout about it on. So, belatedly, I want to introduce you to Jake and Pen - they make me so happy…

Back in the 1950s some bored russian scientists in the middle of trying to engineer superweapons for the cold war found that pulling sellotape really fast from a roll produces X rays. Keen American scientists have recently recreated the experiment to find that in actual fact, it really does!!!

The technical term for the X-Ray phenomenon is something called triboluminescence. As the sticky tape unrolls, the adhesive becomes positively charged, while the plastic tape takes a negative charge.

In a vacuum, this causes an electric field to be generated and 100 milliwatts of X-Rays to be released in a pulse lasting a billionth of a second.

All you need is some sticky back plastic pulled out at 3cm/s (actual speed), a vacuum and a camera to take a photo of your now radiated hand.

William Shatner hits back at George ‘Sulu’ Takei for bad mouthing him in the press and not inviting him to his wedding…

(I’m just proud to be posting some Shat’ news before Rosscoe…)

Reasons why Freaks and Geeks is good:

* It’s set in the 80’s.
* It looks cold (US teen dramas are always sunny)
* It is slow paced and kind of sweet.
* It actually resembles my experience of High School.
* Biff Tannen is in it!

Some of the more visually dexterous of you will have noticed that a newgrounds logo has appeared on the sidebar on the right, why I hear you say. We dont really have much affiliation with them apart from the fact that they produce host consistently quality animations that we like. Is that a crime!!!!! Anyway. Without further ado, here is a pretty random flash by Jesse and Mick Jones.

Newgrounds site here, then actual flash here.

Apart from the fact that they are all overpaid, over-sexed and stupid (like me), my main complaint with various sports and those therein, specifically football, is that it’s all shit. The sports reporting media (or to give it its technical term; the ‘boo hiss you suck’) have a tendancy to make out that what happens on a field or pitch or wherever matters. To the point that it becomes biblical.

“Mneh”

That was the sound I made after I had watched the all new sparkly, gritty Bond film Casino Royale, a sound that I was soon to regret; the sound that turned my friends against me, and after I’ve finished writing this I may have to place some large rocks into my pockets and slowly walk into the sea never to return, shunned by all right minded people, no longer welcome in a world so enamoured with the new look Bond.

Previously my understanding of the creation that is the Segway involves the word “whyyyyyy????” said in a really annoying nasal voice until I hate my self. Even the Fonz couldn’t make these stoopid machines cool… until now…

Let’s get to the greatness about this clip, beyond the fact that it is a chimp riding one of these daft vehicles. We are watching an ape learn! How cool is that?? It reminds me of the work they do with gorillas to teach them sign language

Except here it seems to be some kind of game show, although I don’t know If anyone knows what’s going on… the woman in the box on the upper left just seems happy to be alive. I also enjoy the crazy Mario noises the chimp makes throughout. (And nice outfit dude).

Futurama - Benders GameBeing a big fan of the futurama series myself (rating it higher than Simpsons and Family Guy) I can’t wait for the new movie to come out, which it does so on the 4th of November. Although the first movie (Benders Big Score) was a bit disjointed and maybe forced at some points it was still highly watchable. The second (The Beast With A Billion Backs) solved the odd moments that the first had but struggled with the pace of the story. But I believe the Futurama crew are getting used to a different style of story telling away from the 20minute episodes which they did so well and are hopefully going to nail the head on this one, if not they’ve only got one more planned movie after this.

Anyhow, the site GotFuturama managed to obtain a copy of the new movie and have a review here. It does contain minor spoilers but to paraphrase, he rates it in between the other two movies and mentions it has some quality Zoidberg moments. Doesnt sound like they have mastered the movie style yet but you cant go wrong with some classic Zoidberg. As with every Futurama DVD its got plenty of DVD extras as well so go pre-order it here.
