Yeah… it’s that time again!

Following on from the camp ”I love Battlestar, but my lip quivers at waterboarding” guys song, here is the unedited great interview between Jon Stewart and Cliff May about ‘torture’ and what it means as a nation. They get pretty animated, as you might expect, and as such on the telly box only 6 minutes or so was shown, but the complete thing is available on the Daily Show web site. For how long I do not know. Probably more than a night. Naked. In a stress position…

Over at Neatorama they have been showcasing the work of Keith Loutit, an artist who uses something called ’tilt-shift photography’ but which I like to call ‘wizardry’ to make our reality look like an episode of Thomas the Tank engine…

So no, this isn’t a creepy German museum; this is real! Although creepy German museums are also real.

Great music for the video was the other reason it resides here. Music by Washington, myspace here

There are many songs in our lives that we consider torturous, those songs that make us clutch our heads in agony and consider the true worth of humanity. Here, youtube man ‘therockcookiebottom’ turns that concept on it’s head, with a song about torture using the genuine words from a memo about water boarding… fun times…

And yes, this is the same guy who gave us the Battlestar galactica song that hit the web months ago. To fight the serious low that the water boarding video has engendered, here is the same guy singing in dubious clothing about BSG. He’s serious people….

bbc.co.ukAccording to Den of Geek, Gillian (I love you) Anderson is going to appear in the new series of Dr Who opposite Matt Smith. If this is correct I might explode in a gas of geeky vapours.

This informaton comes from the Daily Express, which I wouldn’t trust to wipe my arse with, but if it is true, they say she will play The Rani. The Rani, if we remember correctly, was the ineffectual villain behind some of the most pointless evyil schemes this side of Davros, as well as several stinky episodes.

I want this to be true. I think we all do.

There have been too many happy happy penguin films of late. And the March of the Penguins in particular  was interpreted some right-wingers to suggest that penguins and, by extension, humans are naturally socially cohesive, monogamous and loving parents. Now, I have nothing against these values, I wish it were true but it seems that penguins may actually be little more like Gordon Ramsay and Chris Tarrant (only less fishy). For an an extremely funny if disturbing critique try to find Stewart Lee’s diatribe,  ‘March of the Mallards’ (until 25 April on BBC i-player: Stewart Lee’s Comedy Vehicle ep 2, 15 minutes in).

Now witness this clip from lovably bonkers film genius Werner Herzog’s awesome new documentary Encounters at the End of the World .

I could go on and on about Herzog and his manifesto. But I won’t. I’m not saying Herzog here isn’t as equally biassed and non-scientific. Just indulge in the contrast with some of the sentimental pap we are served up on a regular basis.  Go see it.

If you were tasked to come up with someone’s name which seems eponyomus with Middle England, Delia Derbyshire would be hard to beat. But I have just been reading up on the lady in question and it seems that, quite oppositely, she travelled from a distant future sun to channel creepy spacy intergalactic sounds right through our pre-digital teleboxes. Most famously, the old Dr Who theme tune. One day we will have the technology to decode these alien songs, but until then you should read a bit more about her earth-days in places such as here and here, and watch the things you can do with a lampshade…

Then recreate the sounds of your own nightmares- especially those involving Scottish hamsters with the BBC Radiophonatron . My mum hates it.

I’m not American, but hell, I’ve got enough face that it is just wrong if I don’t try and cover it in some kind of hairy way; hence my regular bad goatee. For the Gentlemen out there a website is available (complete with theme song) that will assist in the ‘tash growing area.

Here is the link

Soon we can all be like Tom Saltlick there…

Thanks to Jordan for the link. Long may your ‘tash be hairy my friend.

image from herschel space observatoryNo I’m not insane (at least not in that way), but love this little game based on how stars are formed. Use super novas to make the gas gather into dense enough groups to create stars.

See now, education can be fun.
